The body breaks down carbohydrates slower than sugar itself. One gets a sugar high from sugar and a sugar low as energy levels deplete faster than sugar substitutes. A ‘moderate’ intake of refined sugar can be an acceptable part of a healthy diet. Too much sugar in the diet can contribute to various health problems.

The process of where sugar binds with protein until they become non-functional is called glycosylation. All our cells in our bodies contain some protein but when protein attach to sugars they cannot function effectively.

Collagen makes up about 25% of our bodies protein content and when damaged from glycosylation or when oxidation occurs, it breaks down the collagen making skin lose its elasticity and skin becomes more vulnerable to sun damage. The skin becomes saggy, dehydrated and eventually wrinkled.

Large quantities of sugar compromise our immune function resulting in a rapid increase in insulin production and bruised capillaries. It also leads to production of more sebum in the skin that contributes to acne as well as inflammation throughout the body.

The good news is that sugar can easily be replaced with fruit and vegetables. A great way to start the day is to drink first thing in the morning, a warm glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice, a touch of honey and a teaspoon of olive oil to neutralize overnight acidity levels. Drink this every morning, cut down on the sugar, up the exercise and fresh air. Drink plenty of water and you’ll see a difference in your mood, health and skin! One life, live well and enjoy!

Our bodies are vibrating with life and energy. It inspires our very presence. When we obstruct this energy flow, we limit our personal presence. When we allow our energy to flow freely, we appear radiant, healthy, happy and attractive.

If we dislike any part of our bodies, we subconsciously detach from it, leading to blocked energy flow. Unfortunately, perfect bodies represent us in the media, resulting in heavy judgment of ourselves as we attempt to animate these unrealistic standards. If we truly inhabit and befriend our bodies, we can live in peace with who and what we are. If we can make this effort of truce, real healing begins and we free ourselves from any blockages and pain.

Five Things You Can Do To Connect To Your Body:

  1. Send energy throughout your body: close your eyes, imagine a big, crystal like bubble of intense energy at your heart center travelling slowly from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. As it travels down your body, feel and be aware of the parts you dislike. Stop and give it the love it deserves, open up that energy and set it free.
  2. Revitalize your posture: Breath in and out to expand and stretch your posture. Relax your tummy muscles when you walk and breath deeply. Let go of anything that does not serve your highest good.
  3. Love Unconditionally: Love and respect your body. Enjoy and listen to your body. Bodies are naturally joyful and can give you immense pleasurable experiences.
  4. Move: When we move, we can feel our bodies and we get to know it better.
  5. Listen to the signals: Our bodies are responsive and will give us cues as to what it needs. Being compassionate and in tune with your body result in to better health, radiance and a long, contented life.

 

 

 

 

 

What Is My Relationship To Life?

My relationship to life is to live life to the fullest and collect as many positive impressions in my mind and heart. I try to achieve this by learning and sharing from past mistakes, from present challenges and opportunities. I associate my life with developing compassion, expanding knowledge and deepening my spirituality. Being alive in today’s world, my relationship to life embrace flexibility, technology, surprises, adventure and love.

Occasionally my actions conflict with my relationship to life. This is then the exact moment when I become unbalanced and unhappy. Normally just writing in my journal supports me with clarity and the right plan of action.

For example, I’m invited to a party but I know if I go, I won’t get time to reach my report deadlines. These reports can support me with a flexible life one day. However that one-day is still far away in the future and the party is so close in the present. So the obvious thing to do is to go the party, right? I decide to go, have loads of fun but the next day stress arrives on my doorstep, maybe with a hangover and even some guilt…

Lesson learned: even if I reach my deadlines hastily, not putting my needs first in accordance to my relationship to life was in fact, a wrong move. Damn! 😉

 

Being Mindful…

A few weeks ago I experienced a lot of busy-ness as I was preparing for my finals and sorting out my little daughter. My mind was full of calculations, strategies, assessments, thesis and reports. I had to make a change, and found this wonderful information that supported me:

  1. Stop multi-tasking: when you eat, you eat. When you walk, you walk.
  2. Take your time: make your actions deliberate
  3. Do less by prioritizing: it is all a matter of what is important and letting go of what is not.
  4. Plan your schedule and leave enough space between tasks: it takes away stress and gives you a break.
  5. Sit in silence: only 5 minutes of silence and breathing will do you, your thoughts and your body very good.
  6. Focus on the present: stop worrying about the future, or outcomes. Let it go and focus on what you do now.
  7. Be present: listen and talk to others by being completely in the now
  8. Eat to enjoy: savor your food and eat slowly. You deserve this break and take time to digest.
  9. Live your life: savor your life and slow down. Enjoy each and every moment even the stressful ones with deadlines and tasks.
  10. Meditating house chores: put cooking and cleaning into practice of mindfulness. Be present to every task you do and watch your thoughts then change your thought patterns consciously.

During this time I learned a lot about myself, my thought patterns and my insecurities especially on my incapabilities of what I’m currently doing. In fact, if I look at the events now, I am grateful for the challenges because I could locate these habitual patterns that kept me sort of ‘stuck’ in life. Practicing the above will not only support me in achieving that what I want but it will benefit me in the long run to living a mindful, stress-free and productive life. Try it 🙂

Why does my noodles taste like chicken when there is no chicken inside the packet? My mom asked me the other day what does MSG stands for. I quickly checked my phone: monosodium glutamate. Used in the food industry as a flavor-enhancing amino acid and used in processed, packaged and fast foods. It is an excitatory neurotransmitter and neurotoxin.

Astrology played an insignificant role in my life, however I agree with most qualities of a Gemini:

We’re considered to have many personalities or faces. Gemini’s are charming, creative, humorous and quick both in mind and body. We have a lot of energy, fast metabolisms and are clever with words. People say we are spiritual, intelligent and adaptable to locations, situations and people. We are naturally proactive and with an inquisitive mind. We love interaction, getting involved and communication. Unfortunately we do get bored easily and we tend to move from one unfinished project/idea to the next. They say we are superficial, but I don’t agree. I think we want everyone to like us but it’s hard to keep our word, as we made so many promises without thinking of the consequences. Why Eat Organic?

 

Why eat organic? Agricultural chemicals are connected to the rise in cancer over the years and the cumulative exposure to these chemicals contributes to other degenerative and neurological diseases.

The organic varieties of grain and produce contain more nutrients than the non-organic varieties. Over 200 nutrients are present in un-farmed and rich native soil. The typical fertilizers may only contain 3 nutrients. Nutritional content is fundamentally significant when it comes to fighting toxicity and associated free radical damage.

Watch out for the following non-organic produce. The reasons for the higher amounts of pesticides have to do with the type of delivery used:

  • celery

  • green beans
  • cherries
  • kale
  • leafy greens
  • nectarines
  • peaches
  • pears
  • potatoes

Eat as much organic food as possible to avoid exposure to growth hormones, antibiotics and the effects associated with chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Pay the extra bit for organic produce because in the end, conventional food might cost you your health.

 

 

 

Is It Possible to Lie Without Saying a Word?

Yes. Lying without saying a word is what I call lying by omission: leaving out a factual detail deliberately that would drastically change the meaning of what was said.

For example:

It’s buying something and not telling the person you bought it. It’s meeting someone for a liaison and not telling your significant other about it. It’s cheating on a test and telling no one. Deleting a word or a phrase to change its meaning to suit your needs….

Lying by omission is when an important fact is omitted, deliberately leaving another person with a misconception. The consequences of lying are that eventually no one will listen to you, trust you or take you serious. It is worth being honest to others and yourself. The benefits to live a life of integrity magnifies a life filled with abundance, love and happiness all year round!

 

Of All the Forms Of Courage the Ability to Laugh is the Most …

Laughter as we know best is part of a fun time, where we get to experience tickling sensations in our bodies leaving us with sore, achy stomach muscles and scratchy throats. But hey, do we care as the tears pour down our faces and the corners of our mouths are hurting from too wide smiling. No, it’s just too funny and feels too good to stop 🙂

Laughing is releasing, relaxing, it opens us up and feels absolutely liberating. Besides these fun and happy moments, it is also important to laugh during the difficult times.

Having the courage to laugh about something that is an issue or a problem for us, is just as liberating. When we laugh in these uncomfortable situations, we automatically drop the heavy weight of the issue from your shoulders, allowing us to view it from a different perspective.

Even letting out that crazy, hysterical nervous laugh can give us that relaxing feeling. Laughing it out doesn’t mean we care less about the issue, it means we take the stress off our shoulders. Once the stress is gone, we are left with clarity, strength and energy to tackle the issue or not. I found in most cases that stress is the culprit to the complications, troubles, confusions and anger found in our difficult moments and issues in our lives.

I guess we should all be brave and laugh it off anyway. I am laughing right now as I have only two weeks left to finish my postgraduate studies and as usual….I left everything for the last-minute!! So here I go: Hahahahaaa!!!!! 🙂

We as human beings experience the unavoidable process of old age. To live in acceptance of our aging process, not only means we loose our fear of it, we are also setting us ‘free’ from our destined circumstance. In the end, it really doesn’t matter what ‘age number’ we are. It is all about how old we feel on a physical and mental state with regards to our own aging process.

Ask yourself that question today, inspect your outer and inner being carefully and see what is your true age. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
